PROFILE

The College of Law of the Lyceum of the Philippines University is situated in the Central Business District of Makati, in a seven-storey building at #109 L.P. Leviste St., Salcedo Village Makati City. It boasts of an environment suitable to the needs of learning law and an atmosphere more conducive for its intellectual pursuits. Also notable is the advantage of being doorsteps away from the country’s most prestigious law firms where a lot of experienced and brilliant legal minds are ready to impart their own expertise to students.

Occupying four (4) floors in the seven-storey buiding, it has eleven (11) classrooms, which can hold an average of thirty-five students. Centralized air conditioning units help keep a comfortable learning environment. Aside from the usual amenities, each room is equipped with fiberglass whiteboards for better instructional aid and visual understanding. There are fire extinguishers in every classroom aside from the automatic sprinkler system.

It has two audio-visual rooms, which can be converted into two individual classrooms through a retractable partition. One is furnished with modern lighting and sound system. It has also an overhead projector, which can be connected to lap tops, computers, vcd/dvd players and video cameras for visual presentations.

The medical clinic and its staff are equipped to serve the students in their health needs and other related exigencies. In order to bond its faculty members, a faculty room is provided where the professors can exchange ideas to create a more stimulating atmosphere for discussion and instruction.

The Lyceum of the Philippines University College of Law endeavors to develop the spirit, the ideals, and the ethical standard of its every alumnus.

Two elevators are also available for professors’ and students’ use. It is constantly being upgraded to accommodate the building needs.

Jose P. Laurel Library and Salvador H. Laurel Reading Room

The Jose P. Laurel Law Library is nestled in the fifth floor of the College of Law building, the new law library can comfortably accommodate one hundred eighty (180) students at one time. The main reading room can quarter more than one hundred forty (140) students and the special reading room (now the Salvador H. Laurel Library) an additional fifty (50) students.

Aside from the reference books, Philippine Reports, Supreme Court Reports Annotated (SCRA), a good number of textbooks written by local and foreign commentators and other reading materials, the library has eight (8) computers for the exclusive use of Lyceum law students. The computers are internet-ready and installed with up-to-date lex libris CD ROMs for additional student reference. The library also has its photocopying room with three (3) modern photocopying machines.

OBJECTIVES

General Objectives

The College of Law aims to produce the first class professionals who will be a credit to the legal profession and a good citizen of the nation in whose service the Lyceum of the Philippines University is firmly dedicated.

Specific Objectives
  1. The College of law seeks as its primary purpose the preparation of students for the practice of law and to provide legal training to those who may choose to enter such other fields of endeavor in the public service or in the private sector which may require legal knowledge and skills.
  2. The law school shall maintain at all times a high standard of instruction so as to imbue the students not only with the skills of a first class lawyer but also the values of a good leader.
  3. The college of law shall advance the frontiers of legal knowledge through research and emphasize the role of law in national development.
  4. The college of law shall aim to develop the social awareness of the students through the extension of legal aid to the unprivileged and through advocacy of legal reforms in the larger community.
